2027 ELECTION: PROPHET BACKS TINUBU SECOND TERM, CITES REFORMS, SECURITY GAINS

2027 ELECTION: PROPHET BACKS TINUBU SECOND TERM, CITES REFORMS, SECURITY GAINS

By Queen Kunde

A cleric, Rev. Prophet Dr Hungbenu Michael Olusegun, has called on Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines to unite and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, saying the country needs continuity to sustain ongoing reforms and improve security.

Speaking at his church headquarters in Abuja, the founder of Celestrial Deliverance Church of Christ said leadership should be seen as a process that requires time to deliver results, stressing that changing direction too quickly could disrupt progress already made.

He urged Nigerians to look beyond political, tribal, and religious differences, describing the nation as one people with a shared destiny. According to him, elections should not divide citizens along faith lines.

The cleric pointed to key economic policies introduced under the current administration, including the removal of fuel subsidy, which he said has freed up significant government revenue for development projects, and the unification of the exchange rate aimed at restoring investor confidence. He also highlighted the introduction of a student loan scheme and moves toward granting greater financial independence to local governments as major steps toward long-term growth.

On security, he acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly in parts of northern Nigeria and the Middle Belt, but noted what he described as improvements, including the rescue of kidnapped victims, deployment of new military equipment, and a reduction in oil theft.

He, however, appealed to the Federal Government to do more to protect lives, especially in communities affected by violent attacks, calling for justice for victims and stronger security presence across the country.

The cleric also said the current administration reflects a measure of regional and political balance, noting that leadership positions are shared across different parts of the country. He argued that allowing the administration to complete a second term would help stabilise governance and deepen reforms.

Drawing examples from countries like India, Rwanda, and Indonesia, he said leaders who continued policies into second terms often achieved stronger economic growth and stability.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to support national unity, pray for the country, and back the government in its efforts to address economic and security challenges.
