21-Year-Old Female Arms Trafficker Busted in Nasarawa: Police Seize 481 Rounds of Ammunition

21-Year-Old Female Arms Trafficker Busted in Nasarawa: Police Seize 481 Rounds of Ammunition

By Queen Kunde

The Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old woman allegedly smuggling hundreds of rounds of ammunition destined for criminal groups in northern Nigeria.

The suspect, identified as Fatima Salisu from Funtua in Katsina State, was intercepted in the Azuba area of Lafia while attempting to transport a deadly cache of ammunition through Keana and Doma local government areas.

Acting on what police described as “credible intelligence,” Commissioner of Police CP Shetima J. Mohammed ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The swift operation led to Salisu’s arrest and the recovery of a staggering 481 rounds of ammunition — including 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO-grade bullets.

“The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing intensive interrogation,” said Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel, who released a statement on behalf of the Command. “Efforts are ongoing to trace and dismantle the broader network behind this arms trafficking ring.”

Authorities believe the ammunition was en route to criminal elements in Katsina, raising serious concerns over a coordinated supply chain feeding violence in the region.

This arrest is being hailed as a major breakthrough in the fight against illegal arms flow and organized crime in the North-Central and North-West regions.

The Nasarawa State Police Command urged citizens to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely, actionable intelligence.

“This is a clear message to those who believe they can operate above the law,” said CP Mohammed. “We are watching, we are ready, and we will act.”
