Seventy-four Inspectors of Police have been promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II) at a colourful ceremony held at the Zone 7 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja.
The decoration ceremony was led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, AIG Victor Olaiya. Senior police officers, families of the newly promoted officers, and other guests attended the event.
The promotions were approved by the Police Service Commission following recommendations by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The move is part of ongoing reforms aimed at rewarding hard work, dedication, and professionalism within the Force.
Speaking at the ceremony, AIG Olaiya congratulated the officers and reminded them that promotion comes with greater responsibility.
“Promotion is not just a new title. It is a call to serve with more discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights,” he said.
As part of the event, officers also took part in a lecture session covering important topics such as effective communication, social media use, public relations, extortion, assault, and unlawful detention. The sessions focused on improving professionalism and ensuring officers respect the rights of citizens.
AIG Olaiya warned that misconduct would not be tolerated.
“Extortion, assault, and unlawful detention will not be accepted under any circumstance. Any officer found guilty will face strict disciplinary action,” he stated.
Responding on behalf of the newly promoted officers, ASP Mordy Kennedy thanked the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, and the AIG for the recognition. He promised that the officers would uphold the values and standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Nigeria Police Force says it remains committed to building a more professional, people-focused, and service-driven institution.
