As Controversy continues to trail widespread allegations of diversion of palliative sent to Taraba State by the federal government to cushion the effects of hard times, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Taraba State Chapter, Alhaji Aminu Jauro Hassan has debunked the insinuations that the Local Government Chairmen should be held responsible for such acts.
In an exclusive chat with Ziti News, Alhaji Hassan explained that the LGA chairmen in Taraba who are responsible public officers have been working round the clock to ensure good governance at the grassroots.
He said no one of the chairmen will allow for the diversion of any interventions meant for the masses.
“All of us LG chairmen in Taraba State are responsible people that can’t go so low by selling what is meant for their people” he said.
“we are not going to be distracted on our duty as dully elected chairmen saddled with the responsibility of providing overall oversight in our LG” Alhaji concluded.
Recall that some media reports had earlier stated that, there has been public outcry in the state over alleged diversion of federal government palliative, comprising bags of Rice, Maize, guinea Corn and Fertilizers released to the state.
According to the reports, Findings revealed that the commodities were allegedly re- bagged and sold to grain dealers in Jalingo while several bags of Fertilizer were also sold to traders from neighboring states.
The state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Saviour Nokun was said to have confirmed that it was local government areas that first got the allocations adding that if there were cases of diversion then it should be the council Chairmen.
