The All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN) stepped into the national spotlight as it joined top government officials, global partners and private sector leaders at a major conference on tackling internal displacement in Nigeria.
The two-day event, titled “Securing Futures: Market-Based Solutions for Internal Displacement,” was held at the Lagos Continental Hotel and convened by the Office of the Vice President in collaboration with the United Nations, United Kingdom international development partners, and Tropical General Investment (TGI).
Representing AFAN was its Secretary General, Femi Oke, who played an active role in discussions focused on food security, financial inclusion for internally displaced persons (IDPs), and private sector-led solutions to Nigeria’s displacement crisis.
In his remarks, Oke stressed the critical role farmers play in stabilizing communities affected by conflict and displacement. He highlighted AFAN’s efforts in strengthening food systems, empowering farmers, and promoting inclusive agricultural development across the country.
He also praised the Federal Government and private sector partners for standing by farmers, especially in difficult times.
The conference opened with remarks from Mohamed Fall, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria. The keynote address was delivered by Christopher Musa, Honourable Minister of Defence.
On the sidelines of the summit, Oke held strategic meetings with top officials, including the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, where he expressed appreciation for the Farmers’ Money Initiative. He also met with the Minister of Defence and the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture to discuss stronger support systems for farmers.
Further talks were held with representatives of SMEDAN, the Royal Danish Consulate, Tropical General Investment, and MoMo Payment Service Bank, aimed at building partnerships that will expand opportunities for Nigerian farmers.
AFAN’s presence at the high-level gathering sends a clear message: farmers are not just food producers, they are key players in rebuilding lives, restoring stability, and securing Nigeria’s future.
