AIG Zone 7 Receives Crime Reporters Forge Strategic Partnership Against Crime

AIG Zone 7 Receives Crime Reporters Forge Strategic Partnership Against Crime

By Queen Kunde

In a defining moment for media-security relations, the leadership of Crime Reporters Global, led by National Chairman Mr. Tita Onyebuchi, paid a high-profile courtesy visit to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Victor Olaiya, psc(+) at the Zone 7 Police Headquarters, Abuja, signaling a united front in the fight against crime in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The engagement, held on Wednesday, was more than a ceremonial exchange—it was a strategic dialogue focused on transparency, intelligence-sharing, and community-driven crime prevention. As insecurity grows increasingly complex in urban centers like the FCT, both institutions acknowledged the urgent need for synergy between those who enforce the law and those who inform the public.

Mr. Onyebuchi praised the Nigeria Police Force for its resilience amid mounting challenges and urged deeper investment in community-based policing. He raised a red flag over the surge in youth-led internet fraud, calling it a national security risk that requires joint public enlightenment campaigns.

“The media must go beyond headlines. We are partners in public safety. When we share intelligence and amplify awareness, we create a safer, more informed society,” Onyebuchi said.

In his response, AIG Olaiya emphasized the indispensable role of ethical journalism in supporting police accountability, trust-building, and national security.

“The media is not on the sidelines. You are co-defenders of peace and stability. Your role in shaping narratives and supporting security efforts cannot be overstated,” he stated.

The meeting ended with a pledge of sustained collaboration, with both sides committing to real-time information exchange, ethical crime reporting, and joint advocacy for reforms that prioritize both safety and civil liberties.

The visit was formally acknowledged by ASP Mohammed Halima, Public Relations Officer, Zone 7 Headquarters.

This alliance between pen and badge marks a promising chapter in Nigeria’s quest for a smarter, safer capital—where truth informs security, and security protects the truth.
