Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has laid the foundation stone for the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) Eco-City Estate in Makurdi, pledging his administration’s commitment to affordable and modern housing.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Barr. Sam Ode, mni, said the project will transform Makurdi into a modern city with world-class facilities, assuring residents that road networks will be built to guarantee easy access to the estate.

He commended BIPC’s management for revolutionizing the housing sector, urging Benue people and investors to subscribe to the project.
BIPC’s Group Managing Director, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, CFA, disclosed that the Eco-City Estate will deliver 70 duplexes in its first and second phases, with a third phase planned to provide low-income housing. He stressed that the initiative is designed to reduce Makurdi’s high housing costs and give residents decent, affordable homes.
“We are aware that housing is very expensive in Makurdi, and we are working to bring the cost down. Beyond this estate, we have acquired 30 hectares along Gboko Road for a low-income housing scheme,” Dr. Asemakaha revealed.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dcns Deborah Aber, in a goodwill message, hailed BIPC’s bold steps and disclosed that the state is partnering with the Federal Mortgage Bank to provide affordable housing for civil servants.
General Manager, Real Estate and Infrastructure, Lucy Jato, further explained that the estate will feature four-bedroom detached apartments with modern, smart facilities designed for comfort and sustainability.
With the foundation now laid, stakeholders believe the Eco-City Estate will mark a turning point in Benue’s urban renewal and housing development drive.
