The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Benue State Council, has flaged-off political arena aimed to promote issue-based discussions, strengthen democratic participation.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman, NUJ, Benue State Council, Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, explained that the initiative was designed to provide a credible platform for engagement between the political actors and the people of Benue State ahead of next year’s general elections.
His words: “the forum is intended to promote issue-based discussions, strengthen democratic participation, and enable citizens to make informed choices through direct interaction with those seeking public office in the state”.
“As the electioneering season gradually gathers momentum, I wish to advise all political parties and candidates to embrace campaigns centered on ideas, programs, and solutions to the challenges facing our people. Politics should be about service, development, and the collective interest of the state rather than personal ambitions or divisive narratives”, Comrade Ugber admonishes.
He contended that Benue deserves leaders who will place the welfare of the people above every other consideration, and present practical plans for addressing insecurity, economic development, education, healthcare, agriculture and infrastructural development.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Public Forum and Political Affairs Committee, Mr Babs Usigbe, said the political arena provides a valuable opportunity for political parties’ candidates to present their visions, policies and plans to the Benue electorate.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Contender for Buruku Federal Constituency Seat, Hon Gideon Inyam, unveiled his plans for his constituents while interacting with Journalists at the NUJ house, Makurdi during the flag-off ceremony, promising to give effective representation if elected.
