BIPC Launches E-Taxis, Targets 1,500 New Jobs

BIPC Launches E-Taxis, Targets 1,500 New Jobs

By Queen Kunde

The Benue Investment and Property Company Limited (BIPC) has rolled out its groundbreaking Green Wheels Taxi initiative, a bold step set to create 1,500 jobs while transforming the state’s transportation landscape with eco-friendly technology.

At the vibrant launch event held at BIPC’s Makurdi headquarters, Group Managing Director Dr. Raymond Asemakaha-CFA hailed the project as a “milestone for sustainability and innovation,” stressing its dual mission of tackling unemployment and slashing the high cost of mobility across Benue.

“The commissioning of this electric car is a testament to our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint,” Asemakaha said. “Electric vehicles are the future, and we’re proud to be pioneers in driving this change in our community.”

The Green Wheels fleet — billed as Africa’s first electric and solar-powered taxi network — will deploy 500 zero-emission vehicles across Makurdi, Gboko, and Otukpo, according to project lead Mr. Esse Oke of ESSE Mobility Group. Oke praised the collaboration between BIPC and the Benue State Government, calling it a bold embrace of clean energy and innovation.

BIPC’s Head of Business Development and Strategy, Theresa Abeda, described the taxis as a game-changer for transportation in the state, while Builder Lucy Jato and Joshua Nyipira, both senior BIPC executives, urged beneficiaries to seize the employment opportunities.

With built-in CCTV cameras, geofencing technology, and a sophisticated control system, the Green Wheels taxis promise not only environmental benefits but also enhanced passenger security.

In his closing remarks, Company Secretary Josephat Ioryoosu Esq reaffirmed BIPC’s commitment to delivering sustainable solutions that improve lives across Benue.

This launch signals a major leap in Benue’s quest for sustainable development, positioning the state as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s green transport revolution.
