The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has condemned the arrest and release of Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), describing it as a blatant attempt to undermine Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts.
In a statement by its Executive Director, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, CISLAC called the arrest a case of “corruption fighting back,” linked to PCACC’s investigation into properties allegedly tied to a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) figure. Rafsanjani warned that such actions erode public trust and compromise the country’s integrity.
Rimingado was detained Friday evening over the seizure of suspected crime-linked properties but was later granted bail. He has been summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further questioning.
Rafsanjani urged the Inspector General of Police to resist political pressure, stating, “The police must not allow themselves to be used to shield powerful individuals from legitimate investigations. Such actions damage public confidence and tarnish Nigeria’s image globally.”
CISLAC called for justice and emphasized the importance of preserving the integrity of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions.
