The House of Representatives has fixed Monday, September 22, 2025, for its rescheduled National Public Hearing on the review of the 1999 Constitution, with a special call on Nigerian women to turn out in large numbers in support of the proposed Her Seat in Parliament Bill and other amendments.

The event, billed for the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, was earlier postponed in observance of national mourning for former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. It will consolidate citizens’ contributions ahead of legislative voting on Constitution Review Bills.
Deputy Speaker of the House and Chairman of the House Committee on Constitution Review, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR, said the hearing offers Nigerians a rare chance to shape the nation’s supreme law through direct input.
“This Constitution belongs to all Nigerians, and its review must reflect the aspirations of our people. I urge citizens and stakeholders, particularly women, to participate fully in the National Public Hearing and make their voices count. Only through such contributions can we achieve a truly participatory and people-driven constitutional review,” he said.
The hearing follows extensive zonal consultations across the six geopolitical zones in July 2025, where public hearings were held in 12 designated centres nationwide. To aid participation, citizens are encouraged to study the Compendium of 86 Constitution Review Bills available online, which provides explanatory memoranda and detailed notes.
The House reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and credible review process that captures the collective will and aspirations of Nigerians, stressing that the proposed women’s representation bill is a landmark step towards inclusivity in governance.
