The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Victor Olaiya, has charged police officers under his command to uphold discipline, professionalism, respect for human rights and exemplary conduct, saying these are the pillars of effective policing.
Speaking during the Zone 7 General Lecture Parade in Abuja, AIG Olaiya stressed that discipline remains the foundation of accountability, professionalism and quality service delivery in the Nigeria Police Force.
Addressing officers and other personnel, he urged them to remain committed to their duties, uphold the core values of the Force and display good character both on and off duty.
The AIG reminded the officers that every police officer serves as an ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force, noting that their behaviour, appearance, communication and professionalism shape public perception and confidence in the Force.
He therefore called on all personnel to maintain the highest standards of integrity, courtesy, discipline and ethical conduct in carrying out their responsibilities.
On human rights and public service, Olaiya reaffirmed the policing philosophy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu that “Citizens are the Boss.”
He said policing is a service to the people and urged officers to treat members of the public with respect, empathy, fairness and accountability while operating within the law.
The Zone 7 Police boss also shared key directives from the recently concluded Strategic Management Meeting convened by the Inspector-General of Police, where Commissioners of Police and other senior officers reviewed policing priorities across the country.
He encouraged officers to embrace the resolutions of the meeting and align their conduct, leadership and operations with the strategic vision of the Inspector-General.
According to him, the General Lecture Parade is part of ongoing efforts by Zone 7 Headquarters to strengthen discipline, improve professionalism and promote a people-centred policing culture that will enhance public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
