Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Grace Ike, has called on Christians and Nigerians at large to embrace hope, sacrifice, and national unity as they celebrate Easter.
In a statement marking the 2026 Easter celebration, Ike congratulated Christian faithful across the Federal Capital Territory and the country, describing Easter as the foundation of the Christian faith and a symbol of victory over death, light over darkness, and the promise of redemption.
She urged citizens to reflect deeply on the values of love, forgiveness, and selfless service as exemplified by Jesus Christ, noting that such virtues are critical to building a peaceful and morally upright society.
The NUJ chairman also commended Christians for their spiritual commitment during the Lenten season, emphasizing that fasting, prayer, and charity remain vital tools for strengthening compassion and social harmony.
Addressing journalists in particular, Ike charged members of the profession to uphold truth, fairness, and responsibility in their duties, while contributing meaningfully to national development.
She further called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, to promote unity, tolerance, and mutual respect, stressing that the nation’s strength lies in its diversity.
Ike appealed to citizens to remember the less privileged during the festive period, describing Easter as a season of giving and compassion.
She also urged leaders at all levels to emulate the spirit of sacrifice and service associated with Easter by prioritizing citizens’ welfare, promoting justice, and ensuring inclusive governance.
While wishing Nigerians a peaceful celebration, Ike encouraged responsible conduct during the festivities.
“May the resurrection of Christ renew our hope, strengthen our unity, and usher in lasting peace and prosperity for our nation,” she said.
