The Chairmanship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the upcoming AMAC Area Council election, Hon. Robert Madaki, says he is the best candidate to win and transform the council.
Madaki spoke on Wednesday in Abuja during a consultative meeting with leaders of the Tiv community ahead of the February 21, 2026 election in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
He said he decided to meet with the Tiv community because of their large population across AMAC and their strong commitment to supporting credible and capable leaders who can deliver good governance in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to him, AMAC has suffered over the years due to poor leadership and lack of vision.
“I have worked in community development across Africa. I want to use my experience to develop AMAC. Today, many parts of AMAC do not feel the presence of the Area Council. From Nyanya to Kuchigoro, Gwarimpa to Area One, there are still mothers giving birth at home instead of in proper health facilities. This must stop,” Madaki said.
He promised to introduce quality programmes and activities that will improve healthcare, infrastructure and community services across the council if elected chairman.
Speaking on behalf of the Tiv community, President of Mdzough U Tiv Abuja Chapter, Prince Terver Michael Kokoiwen, thanked the YPP candidate for reaching out to them.
He said Madaki was the first chairmanship candidate to formally seek the support of the Tiv people, describing the move as a sign of respect and recognition of their importance in the election.
“We are grateful that you came to us. We will communicate your message to Tiv leaders across AMAC. You have our support, and we believe you will win because you mean well for the people,” he said.
Other Tiv leaders from various wards in AMAC also pledged their support for Madaki and assured him of massive votes in the February 21 election.
The YPP team later paid a courtesy visit to the First Class Chief of the Tiv Community in the FCT, Abuja to receive royal blessings ahead of the polls.
