FMWI Transforms Teens with Life Skills and Confidence Boost

FMWI Transforms Teens with Life Skills and Confidence Boost

By Queen Kunde

A shy SS2 student walked up to the microphone, her hands trembling. The day before, she had broken down in tears, unable to speak before her peers. But this time, she stood tall, smiled, and confidently shared her story. The audience erupted in applause, proof that transformation had taken root.

This powerful moment was one of many highlights at the recently concluded ‘Speak, Shine, and Succeed’ workshop, organized by Fabulous Minds Women Initiative (FMWI), a non-governmental organization devoted to empowering women and girls.

The -day workshop, held under the theme “Speak, Shine, and Succeed,” brought together teena eager to conquer stage fright, build self-esteem, and gain practical life skills.
Facilitators—Mrs. Theodora Obayojie, a Communication Specialist and Family Therapist; Mrs. Romoke Omosehin, an Educational Consultant; and Mrs. Betty Bello, a Financial Executive—led interactive sessions on communication, confidence-building, and self-worth.

Beyond speaking skills, the teens rolled up their sleeves for entrepreneurship training. Under the guidance of Mrs. Eguono Okiti, CEO and Business Executive, and Mrs. Rita Chikaodili Nwaneri, Director of La Ritz Cakes and Events, participants learned to make liquid soap, cakes, puff-puff, and doughnuts—skills that could one day launch small businesses.
For many of the teenagers, the experience was life-changing.
“Yesterday, I couldn’t stand before my mates; I embarrassed myself with tears. But today, I can now stand and express myself,” one participant testified tearfully, her face glowing with newfound confidence.

Excited chatter filled the room as others asked, “When is the next workshop? sign that the program had ignited both curiosity and courage.

For FMWI President, Mrs. Betty Agunobi, the workshop was more than a training, it was an investment in the future.

“We remain committed to equipping women and girls with thriving skills, promoting economic empowerment, health advocacy, and leadership development. By investing in teens today, we nurture a generation of confident, skilled, and compassionate individuals who will transform their communities.”

The workshop builds on FMWI’s earlier initiatives, including a March dialogue with the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) on strengthening family unity and social cohesion.
FMWI has now thrown open its doors to partners, sponsors, and collaborators, urging more support to sustain and expand such impactful programs.

As the SS2 girl who once trembled in fear stood boldly before her peers, her transformation embodied the essence of ‘Speak, Shine, and Succeed’: giving young people the courage to find their voice, shine in their gifts, and step into a future filled with possibilities.
