Four Killed in Nasarawa Boat Mishap

Four persons have been reported dead following a boat mishap in Lafia East Local government area of Nasarawa State on Thursday .

Reports says the unfortunate incident occured when a boat convenying some farmers with their goods from Alogani village to the popular Ashangwa market.

The shocking death of a man and three females throw the community into mourning .

An eye witness, Abdul Hamid Sale who narrated the incident lamented what he referred to as an avoidable loss of lives, explained that the farmers had no other option than to take the boat transport due to lack of road networks linking communities within the area.

He said the boat sank due to overload, with 25 persons, 4 motorcycles and 4 bags of melon onboard.

“If we have good road networks around here, no body will risk their lives to take the boat, especially with so much goods” he lamented.

The overseer of Lafia East Development Area, Barrister Haruna Muhammed said the authorities are aware of the tragic incident, and investigative is ongoing to ascertain it’s immediate cause.

He however disclosed that they have employed the services of some experienced fishermen to recover the remaining bodies and properties.
