The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has rolled out a nationwide safety operation ahead of the 2026 Eid-El-Fitri celebrations, deploying officers, patrol vehicles and rescue teams across major roads to keep travelers safe.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, announced that the special patrol will run from March 17 to March 22, targeting the heavy traffic that usually comes with the Sallah holiday.
He said the move is aimed at cutting down road crashes, deaths and injuries, while ensuring smooth movement on highways as millions of Nigerians travel to celebrate with family and loved ones.
During the period, FRSC will operate round-the-clock patrols on key routes, backed by ambulances, tow trucks, motorbikes and emergency rescue teams ready to respond quickly to accidents or breakdowns.
Motorists should also expect stricter enforcement. Officials will clamp down on speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, use of phones behind the wheel, and vehicles that are not roadworthy.
The Corps also plans to clear road obstructions quickly and monitor traffic closely to avoid long delays.
To strengthen the operation, FRSC is working with other agencies including the Police, Civil Defence, and Fire Service to ensure fast emergency response and maintain order on the roads.
Real-time traffic updates will be broadcast on National Traffic Radio, while road users can report emergencies through the FRSC toll-free number 122.
While wishing Muslims a peaceful Eid-El-Fitri, the Corps Marshal urged drivers to obey traffic rules, be patient, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition.
“Safety is everyone’s responsibility,” he said, stressing that the Corps remains committed to making Nigerian roads safer for all.
