Gov Alia Signs Electricity Law To Enhance Power Supply

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, has signed the Benue State Electricity Law, 2026.

The Governor, who Performed this ceremony at the Old Banquet hall, Government House, Makurdi, maintained that the law is expected to have several positive impacts on the people and economy of the state.

In a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia, stressed that the law will create a legal framework for increased electricity generation, transmission, and distribution within the state, leading to more reliable and stable power supply for homes, businesses, schools and hospitals among others.

According to the Governor, improved electricity will attract investors, encourage the establishment of industries and businesses, and create employment opportunities for Benue residents.

He says the law will reduce the cost of doing business, enhanced customer protection, and improve quality of life for the rural people.

“Communities that currently lack access to electricity can benefit from expanded power infrastructure, improve healthcare services, education, agricultural processing, security and overall living standards across the state”, the statement added.
