Taraba State youths under the aegis of the Transforming Futures Through Education initiative in collaboration with the Taraba State Students Rescue Club (TSSRC), has appealed to the Taraba State Government to urgently intervene in the area of infrastructural development of the Primary and Secondary schools across the state to enable students learn well to attain their Future ambitions.
Speaking at a One-Day Mentorship Program put together by the association in commemoration of the 2024 international Youths day of Service held in Jalingo the Taraba State Capital, president of the association, Amb. Abdulrazak Abubakar Dabo said the call became necessary following the numerous gaps created by the State Government’s free Education policy.
“While we appreciate the Taraba State Governments free education policy, we must bring to the notice of those in charge the fact that our younger ones are facing numerous challenges in enjoying this policy”
“we have observed that most children do not take notes when they go to school, that is because the Taraba State government has not fulfilled its promise to provide pupils with writing material, how then can these children learn well to become great leaders of tomorrow” he added.
According to Amb. Dabo, “today we have bought some writing materials to distribute to these few, through our little contributions we are able to achieve this, how much will it cost our government to do this across all schools in the state, if it will help us the young ones achieve our future dreams” he chided.
In his remark, Head of administration and Human resources of the of National Technology Incubation Centre, Jalingo, Mr. Jimoh hailed the youths for conducting themselves in an organized manner at their young ages, encouraged them to learn skilled vocation alongside academic pursuit in order to be gainfully employed when the need arises.
On her part, the president of Taimako Women in Media Initiative, WIM, Mrs. Queen Kunde Enoch, who was represented by the associations Secretary, Favour Williams at the event urged parent to create more time for their Children regardless of their very busy schedules necessitated by the quest to fulfill economic needs of the Family especially with the recent increasing economic hardship.
Other speakers at the event added their voice to the call for the youths to shun all forms of social vices that could impede the future development of the youths, hampering the attainments of their bright and productive carriers.
Highlights of the event was the distribution of writing materials to pupils to symbolize the essence of the day which is, Youth Day of Service and a demonstration to the Government that indeed free education is possible and desirable in Taraba State.
