The Labour Party sent a strong message of unity and discipline at its South West Geopolitical Zone Town Hall Meeting held in Abuja this weekend, emphasizing integrity, internal cohesion, and commitment to constitutional principles ahead of the 2025 elections.
National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, represented by the party’s National Youth Leader, Kenedy Ahukaonye, charged party aspirants in the forth coming Federal Capital Territory, FCT Area Councils Chairmanships and Councilorship elections to remain loyal to the Labour Party constitution and be prepared to defend it at all costs.
Stressing the importance of geopolitical zonal engagement, Abure noted that the courts have been clear on the issue of party leadership, and the party awaits formal pronouncements from INEC to reinforce its position.
The Chairman’s message was unequivocal: “The party will not hesitate to expel anyone indulging in anti-party activities.”
Adding to the tone of seriousness, the party’s National Deputy Chairman took the podium to assert that Labour party would not welcome corrupt politicians or opportunists who fail to uphold the party’s values.
He urged all aspirants to adhere strictly to ethical conduct and commit to the party’s mandate, warning that “2025 will not be business as usual.”
He called on the party’s screening committee to rigorously vet all certificates and background checks, insisting that only credible candidates should fly the Labour flag, especially in the FCT elections.
The FCT Labour Party Chairman reinforced this call for discipline and unity, encouraging members to exhibit steadfast leadership and avoid internal fractures that could cost the party victory—particularly in the high-stakes elections across the Federal Capital Territory.
Meanwhile, aspirants vying for chairmanship and councillorship positions in Kuje, Bwari, and AMAC Area Councils, including High Chief Mayor and Tochi Nzeh—pledged unwavering loyalty.
They promised not to bring the party into disrepute if elected, vowing to uphold its values and serve the people with dignity.
With fiery declarations and firm commitments from its leadership, the town hall meeting marks a pivotal moment for Labour Party’s grassroots mobilization ahead of the coming electoral contest.
