Most lawmakers were absent as the National Assembly resumed on Today, October 9, after it’s long break which it embarked upon on July 24, 2018.
There was tight security at the National Assembly as more police officers and police trucks were sighted with more security men in unidentified uniform also on the ground with strict instructions not to allow unauthorised persons into the National Assembly
Recall the National Assembly had embarked on its annual recess on July 24 amidst controversies of defection and preparation for party primaries.
The National Assembly was scheduled to resume on September 25, but it was postponed to October 9 due to the parties primaries.
There is unease at the National Assembly after some senators loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) allegedly vowed to remove Senate president, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, as the lawmakers resume from annual recess Today.
But senators belonging to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), are reportedly fighting back and have resolved to resist any illegal move by APC lawmakers to force the Senate president and his deputy out of office.
The PDP lawmakers have insisted that leadership of the Senate is not by party affiliation but through an election by all the senators.
