The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered firearms in Masaka.

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, and issued to journalists on Tuesday, the arrest was made on 15 July 2024, at about 2:30 p.m.

The statement said police operatives attached to Masaka Division were on an intelligence-led patrol when they intercepted three people riding on a motorcycle along 3030 Junction, Masaka. The suspects were strongly suspected to be armed robbers, and in a bid to escape arrest, they dropped their weapons and fled. One of the suspects, Aliyu Danladi, was arrested while the others escaped.

A search was conducted, and two locally fabricated pistols, three cartridges, three cutlasses, and criminal charms were recovered from him as exhibits. The suspect has made useful statements and is assisting in the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for further investigation. He has also tasked officers not to relent in the fight against criminals in the state.

“The police will not rest on its oars until all criminal elements in the state are brought to book,” the Commissioner said. “We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the state is safe for all citizens.”

Nadada, however, urged members of the public to continue to support the police in their efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

“The public is our partner in the fight against crime,” the Police Public Relations Officer said. “We urge them to continue to provide us with useful information that will help us to apprehend criminals and keep the state safe.”
