The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has extended heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) following the grand success of the union’s 70th Anniversary celebrations.
In a goodwill message signed by the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, the association described the milestone event as “remarkable” and a reflection of visionary leadership and teamwork within the journalism community.
She lauded NUJ’s National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, for his “vision and dedication” which, she said, were evident throughout the commemorative events. “We say a resounding congratulations and thank you. Your leadership stood tall,” Ikpang stated.
The NAWOJ FCT Chapter also poured encomiums on the Deputy National President of the NUJ, Dr. Bimbo Oyetunde, praising her exceptional role in the successful outing. “Your brilliance and commitment left an unforgettable mark,” Ikpang noted.
Special recognition was also given to Comrade Grace Ike, Chairperson of the FCT NUJ Council, who played host to the celebrations. Her “leadership, support, and coordination,” according to Ikpang, were pivotal in the seamless execution of the event.
The FCT NAWOJ also celebrated the national leadership of NAWOJ, both past and present, who were recognized with awards during the occasion. “We are especially proud that many of these honourees hail from our own FCT Chapter,” the statement read.
NAWOJ National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, was equally applauded for steering the association with “inclusive, purposeful, and people-centred leadership.”
“To our past leaders, we salute your legacies. You light the path for others to follow,” Ikpang added.
She also appreciated all NAWOJ members who travelled to Abuja to grace the anniversary, wishing them safe journeys back to their destinations.
Above all, she offered thanksgiving, stating, “We return all glory to God for making it all possible.”
The 70th Anniversary of the NUJ was marked with fanfare, reflections on the journey so far, and recognition of individuals and institutions who have contributed significantly to the media profession in Nigeria.
