NDLEA Arrests 363 Suspects, Recovers 495kg of Narcotics in Kwara State

The Kwara State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of 363 suspects and recovery of 495.166 kilograms of narcotics and psychotropic substances between January and June 2024.

State Commander Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir CN disclosed this while presenting the command’s progress report at a press conference in Ilorin on Friday

He noted that 317 males and 46 females were among those arrested, with 75 convictions secured and 35 cases pending.

The command who also conducted sensitization and awareness programs in schools, institutions, and communities decried the numerous challenges faced by the command to include, lack of operational vehicles.

He added that there are Prospects for winning the war against drug abuse which as they have lined up activities such as intensifying demand reduction efforts, collaborating with the state government, and establishing a drug use policy in tertiary institutions.

The chairman of the Drug Control Committee, Kwara State, Pharmacist Hajia Barakat Olanrewaju, commended the NDLEA’s efforts and pledged continued partnership to combat drug abuse.

The Special Assistant on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control, Hon Aileru Olamilekan Mukail, assured that the governor will continue to support drug prevention programs, including the establishment of a drug control policy and drug-free clubs in public secondary schools in the state
