Nigerian Philanthropist Abel Ayodeji Joins Irish Police Force as NUJ FCT Correspondent Chapel hails historic commissioning into An Garda Síochána

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Correspondents’ Chapel has congratulated Chief Prince Dr. Abel Sunday Adewunmi Ayodeji, the Asiwaju of Owu Sokori and Asoju Oba of Owu Kingdom, on his commissioning into Ireland’s elite police service, An Garda Síochána.

Chief Ayodeji, a Nigerian-born philanthropist and community development specialist, was officially attested on Friday, August 22, 2025, after completing training at the Garda Police College, making him a full-fledged officer of one of the world’s most respected law enforcement institutions.

The NUJ FCT Correspondent Chapel described the milestone as a personal triumph for Ayodeji and a source of pride for Nigeria and the African diaspora.

Born in Lagos and rooted in the Amororo Royal Family of Owu, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Chief Ayodeji has built an impressive career in social service across Europe. A registered European social service professional (Socionomi), he has worked with the European Union, United Nations, and national governments on issues ranging from anti-domestic violence campaigns to migrant integration.

His academic journey spans The Federal Polytechnic Ede and Finland’s Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, among other international institutions. Earlier this year, he received an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership, Management, and Administration in Ireland.

Beyond his professional work, Chief Ayodeji and his wife, Chief Princess Adelaid Ayodeji, run the Asiwaju and Yeye Asiwaju Owu Sokori Community Development Foundation, which has impacted lives across borders. The Foundation recently partnered with the NUJ FCT Correspondent Chapel, supporting its August 2025 Congress in Abuja.

NUJ FCT Correspondent chapel Chairman, Felix Ojo, said the union is proud to be associated with “a trailblazer whose life reflects discipline, service, and global citizenship.”

He added: “We salute Chief Dr. Abel Ayodeji’s commitment to excellence and celebrate this noble step into law enforcement in a country renowned for strong democratic and civic institutions.”

With his new role in the Irish police force, Ayodeji continues to embody the spirit of service and leadership, serving as a bridge between Africa and the global community.
