In a move to empower Nigerian women in governance, the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), FCT Chapter, in collaboration with the Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC), has organized a one-day training to boost women’s political engagement.

Held at NILOWV’s Liaison Office in Abuja, the training focused on the 74 Special Seats Bill, a proposed legislation aimed at increasing women’s representation in Nigeria’s parliaments.

NILOWV National President, Hon. Irene Awunah, emphasized the need for equal political participation, calling for the swift passage of the bill to enhance women’s inclusion in decision-making.

Program Manager of PLAC, Nkiru Uzodi, stressed that more female voices in governance would foster national cohesion and good governance. Also present was the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), represented by Board of Trustee Member, Anna Daniels, who underscored the importance of the initiative.

With 14 Standing Committees focused on key issues like gender rights, education, and advocacy, NILOWV continues to drive the agenda for women’s empowerment and political representation in Nigeria.
