- Ward-Level Registration to Begin Nationwide as Part of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

In a sweeping move to ensure national inclusivity, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has successfully enrolled and issued National Identification Numbers (NINs) to 59,786 inmates across correctional centres nationwide. This milestone, achieved in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), marks a significant step in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to provide every Nigerian and legal resident with a unique identity.
According to NIMC, 74% of inmates in the nation’s correctional facilities have now been enrolled, with the remaining population to be covered in the ongoing drive.
“This is more than data collection—it’s a commitment to inclusion and national development,” said Engr. (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, Director-General/CEO of NIMC. She emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving full national identity coverage.
The Commission also announced it will soon roll out ward-level enrolment across the country, expanding access to the National Identity System down to the grassroots.
NIMC expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and the Comptroller-General of NCoS, Mr. Nwakuche Ndidi, for their unwavering support in driving the initiative forward.
As ward-level enrolment takes centre stage, NIMC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring no Nigerian or legal resident is left behind in the journey toward a unified identity system.
