The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reaffirmed that its ongoing ward-level National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment drive is progressing steadily across the country, urging Nigerians yet to register to take advantage of the decentralised exercise.
The nationwide enrolment campaign, which officially began on February 16, 2026, is aimed at expanding access to identity registration by bringing services closer to citizens at the grassroots level.
According to a press statement issued by Kayode Adegoke, PhD, Head of Corporate Communications, NIMC, the commission said the ward-level initiative is designed to accelerate the attainment of inclusive identity coverage across Nigeria.
The commission emphasised that the National Identification Number (NIN) remains a critical requirement for accessing essential government services and programmes in the country.
Adegoke therefore encouraged citizens and legal residents who have not yet enrolled to visit designated registration centres within their wards and complete the process.
“NIMC reiterates that the National Identification Number remains a foundational requirement for accessing critical government services in Nigeria,” Adegoke stated in the statement.
He explained that the decentralised enrolment strategy was introduced to ease congestion at existing centres and make the process more accessible to Nigerians, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.
To ensure a smooth and efficient registration process, NIMC advised members of the public to verify the location of the nearest enrolment centre through the commission’s website, cooperate with registration officials, and provide accurate information during the enrolment process.
The commission also urged Nigerians to rely only on verified information through its official communication channels, including its website www.nimc.gov.ng and social media platforms @nimc_ng on X (formerly Twitter), National Identity Management Commission on Facebook, and @nimc_ng on Instagram.
NIMC further encouraged applicants to take advantage of its digital platforms to simplify the process. Citizens can complete pre-enrolment online via penrol.nimc.gov.ng, while those seeking corrections or updates to their records can access the self-service modification portal at selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.
In addition, the commission advised Nigerians to download the NINAUTH mobile application, available on both iOS and Android platforms, to securely verify and manage their digital identity.
The identity agency reiterated its commitment to building a robust national identity database that will support service delivery, security management, and national development.
NIMC also urged citizens and residents across the federation to turn out in large numbers to register and obtain their NIN, stressing that the exercise remains ongoing nationwide.
NIMC… providing assured identity.
