The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has dismissed reports alleging that some enrolment agents in Abuja are collecting money from applicants to falsify dates of birth, reiterating that all modifications of National Identification Number (NIN) data can only be done online.
In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, the Commission clarified that no physical modifications are allowed and emphasized that it does not operate or authorize agents to alter data on behalf of applicants.
“All NIN data modifications are processed strictly through the official self-service modification portal selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng,” the statement read. “NIMC operates a zero-tolerance policy for extortion, falsification, or any form of misconduct by staff or licensed Front-End Partners.”
The Commission further urged NIN holders to strictly follow approved statutory procedures, while also calling on members of the public to report any cases of extortion or unethical practices through its official complaint channels:

Reassuring Nigerians of the integrity of the National Identity Database, NIMC stressed that it remains committed to strengthening transparency, accountability, and public trust in the nation’s identity management system.
