NIMC Warns: Self-Service NIN Portal Tied to One Device Only

NIMC Warns: Don’t Sell Your NIN — We Won’t Be Liable for Data Abuse

By Queen Kunde

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a public advisory warning Nigerians about strict access protocols tied to its self-service data modification portal for the National Identification Number (NIN).

In a press release signed by Dr. Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications, the Commission revealed that each self-service account is locked to the specific browser and device used during its initial registration, a security measure aimed at protecting users’ identity data.

“Applicants must use the same browser and device they registered with to access or modify their NIN records,” the statement read. “Switching devices or clearing browser cache could result in a locked account, requiring a tedious unlinking process.”

NIMC further noted that if a browser and device become locked, users have a maximum of five (5) attempts to unlock their account. Once this limit is exceeded, no additional requests will be processed, potentially resulting in extended access denial.

“These protocols have been put in place to protect the integrity of users’ identities on our self-service modification portal,” Dr. Adegoke emphasized, urging users to avoid unnecessary disruptions by adhering strictly to the guidelines.

For additional support, users are advised to contact the Commission via: nimccustomercare@nimc.gov.ng.

The advisory is part of NIMC’s ongoing effort to enhance data protection, streamline digital service delivery, and bolster public trust in its identity management infrastructure.
