The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, is set to bring journalists and other media professionals together to tackle the growing challenge of misinformation in security reporting.
The two-day conference, scheduled for September 15 and 16, 2026, at Barcelona Hotel, Wuse 2, Abuja, will focus on improving police-media relations and promoting accurate and responsible security communication.
The event is being organised by Zone 7 in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the International Institute of Journalism (IIJ).
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, will serve as Chief Host, while AIG Victor Olaiya, Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 7, will host the event.
Journalists, content creators, digital media professionals and other practitioners will discuss issues including fact-based reporting, misinformation, crisis communication, digital media practices and public safety.
The Police said the conference comes at a time when unverified information can spread rapidly and influence public opinion, particularly during security crises.
Only 30 participants are expected at the conference, a move designed to encourage direct interaction, open discussions and stronger professional networks between the media and the Police.
The organisers said the goal is to build a media community that can report security issues accurately without unnecessarily creating fear, tension or confusion.
Zone 7 urged media professionals interested in responsible security reporting to participate in the conference.
