The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has bestowed a prestigious award on Past Assistant Governor (PAG) Evelyn Onyilo in recognition of her remarkable service to journalism and the union. The honor was conferred during a special ceremony marking the NUJ’s 70th Anniversary on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Abuja.
Evelyn Onyilo, a Paul Harris Fellow and Assistant Zonal Coordinator (Zone 2) for Rotary District 9127 (2024–2025), was lauded for her unwavering dedication, impactful leadership, and enduring contributions to both the NUJ and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). A member of the Rotary Club of Abuja Central Business District, PAG Onyilo previously served in the same zonal capacity under District 9125 from 2023–2024.
The award was presented by NUJ National President, Alhassan Yahya, who described Onyilo’s service as “meritorious and deeply inspiring,” commending her for setting a benchmark in professional integrity and advocacy for women in journalism.
In a message of congratulations, Rotarian (Dr.) Tonia Okonokhua, District Women Child and Community Coordinator (DWCCC) for Rotary District 9127, hailed Onyilo’s recognition as well-deserved, noting her tireless passion for service and humanitarian causes.
“On behalf of District Governor Rotarian Mike Ukachi Nwanoshiri, I celebrate PAG Evelyn’s exceptional contributions and achievements. May this milestone mark the beginning of many more accolades,” Dr. Okonokhua said.
The award adds to PAG Evelyn Onyilo’s growing legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to both the Rotary ideals and the advancement of journalism in Nigeria.
