The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has commended Transcorp Hilton Abuja for its unwavering support and generosity in hosting the 2025 NUJ Annual Lecture and Awards Ceremony.

The prestigious event, held on Tuesday, July 22, at the hotel’s renowned Borno-Rivers Hall, brought together leading journalists, media executives, government officials, and public figures in a celebration of press freedom, national dialogue, and journalistic excellence.

Chairman of NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, lauded Transcorp Hilton Abuja as “a true friend of the Nigerian press,” thanking the hotel for its continued commitment to professional journalism and democratic values.

“We are deeply thankful to Transcorp Hilton Abuja for recognizing the media’s vital role as the cornerstone of democracy,” Ike said. “Their generosity and hospitality were instrumental to the success of this year’s lecture and awards, which honor journalists and organizations that champion truth, integrity, and development.”

Themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Media, Press Freedom, Democracy and Society,” the 2025 edition featured keynote speeches from national figures including Minister of Housing Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, UBEC Chairman and former Nasarawa State Governor Sen. Tanko Al-Makura, FCT House Committee Chairman Rt. Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, and NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero.

NUJ President was represented by Vice President Zone D, Adeiza Momoh, while former NUJ Council chairmen and media veterans also graced the occasion. Among the dignitaries honoured was the Speaker of the House of Representatives, who served as guest speaker and received a special award for championing gender equality.

Speaking on behalf of the hotel, Mr. Ifeanyi Nnadi, Assistant Public Relations and Marketing Manager of Transcorp Hilton Abuja, reaffirmed the hotel’s commitment to media partnership.

“At Transcorp Hilton Abuja, we view the media as partners in progress. We are honored to host the NUJ and will continue supporting platforms that celebrate excellence, promote dialogue, and strengthen democratic institutions,” he stated.

Ms. Ijeoma Osuji, e-Commerce Manager of the hotel, echoed this sentiment: “We value the media’s crucial role in shaping society and remain committed to supporting forums that encourage meaningful conversations and national growth.”

Journalists who attended the event echoed the council’s gratitude. Mr. Odita Sunday of The Guardian described the hotel’s gesture as “memorable and encouraging,” while NUJ FCT Vice Chairman Comrade Ndambabo affirmed the union’s sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality.
