The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his notable infrastructural development efforts across the capital city.
In a communiqué issued after its maiden Congress held at the Council Secretariat in Utako, Abuja, the NUJ FCT also called for urgent economic reforms to address rising living costs, poor power supply, and growing insecurity affecting residents.
Presided over by Comrade Grace Ike, the Congress brought together over 400 members, including former leaders of the Council and NAWOJ. In her opening remarks, Ike reaffirmed the executive’s commitment to fostering unity and progress within the union.
The union highlighted the escalating cost of living as a pressing concern, describing it as a burden on Nigerians, and urged the Federal Government to implement measures to ease hardships.
The communiqué also decried erratic power and water supplies, emphasizing their adverse impact on businesses and residents, and called for the restoration of basic services.
On insecurity, the NUJ FCT expressed alarm over rising violence, including ritual killings, and stressed the urgent need for economic and security interventions to safeguard lives and livelihoods.
The Congress concluded with a renewed pledge to prioritize the welfare and development of its members while fostering stronger unity within the union.
