The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council is set to host a groundbreaking symposium on disability-inclusive journalism in Abuja, underscoring its commitment to amplifying the voices of persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Scheduled for Monday, October 6, 2025, at the NUJ Secretariat, Utako, Abuja, the symposium themed “Breaking Barriers, Amplifying Voices: Inclusive Journalism” will gather journalists, disability advocates, and development partners to deliberate on strategies for a more inclusive media space.
The event will also witness the launch of the Reserved Park Signage Initiative for the National Assembly and media organizations in compliance with the Disability (Prohibition) Act of 2018 — a move aimed at fostering accessibility and inclusivity in public spaces.
Experts from CARE, CISLAC, and Heirs Life Assurance are expected to lead technical sessions on disability rights, media advocacy, and social protection.
In addition, journalists with disabilities will share their personal stories in an interactive session designed to shed light on the barriers they face and the opportunities for a more inclusive media industry.
NUJ FCT Secretary, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, said the symposium reflects the union’s resolve to ensure “a media landscape where every voice counts, and no one is left behind.”
