Comrade Ngozi Ufomba, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Chapel, has applauded the Abia Media Day project team for its successful organization of an award ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions to media development in Abia State.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Ufomba described the event, themed “Celebrating the Voice of Abia, Empowering the Future of Media,” as a milestone in acknowledging the role of media practitioners and proprietors in shaping societal values.
The ceremony, held in Umuahia, featured remarks by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who urged journalists to uphold truth and integrity in their work.
Ufomba commended the project team for honoring notable figures in media, saying the recognition showcased their invaluable contributions to the state’s development. “The awardees are deserving of the garlands, as every Abian can attest to their significant roles in promoting informed decision-making across various spheres of life,” she remarked.
Recipients of the awards included Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, founder of The Sun Newspapers; Senator Austin Akobundu; media proprietors such as Chief Raymond Nkemdirim of Flo FM and Bishop Sunday Onuoha of Vision Africa; as well as other notable broadcasters, journalists, and media entrepreneurs.
The Abia Media Day project was a collaborative effort of media bodies including NUJ, RATTAWU, NIPR, and OMPAN. Ufomba, herself an Abia State indigene, was praised by observers for her leadership in the media sector at the national level.
She expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to inspire media practitioners to remain committed to excellence and truth in their profession
