AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF TARABA STATE (DR. KEFAS AGBU): AN APPEAL FOR LOCAL PRODUCTION OF SCHOOL UNIFORMS AND SANDALS TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE STATE
By Paul Peniel Pitiko and Tomon Irimiya Ishaku
Your Excellency,
In line with your commendable policy for free education, youth, and women empowerment, we wish to bring to your attention a matter of great importance. While we appreciate your efforts and dedication to enhancing the educational sector and empowering our people, we believe there is a significant opportunity to further these goals of production of school uniforms and sandals.
Your Excellency, there are whole lot of talent in the state that are into tailoring and shoe making that the contract for the production of uniforms and sandals can be allocated to. While we recognize the efficiency and economic benefits of international partnerships, we believe that employing local talent for these tasks can offer numerous advantages that align with your administration’s objectives.
EMPOWERMENT OF LOCAL TALENT
Taraba State is home to a multitude of skilled tailors and shoe producers. By engaging these local artisans, we can create substantial employment opportunities within the state, thus addressing youth unemployment and fostering economic growth. Empowering local tailors and shoe producers would not only provide them with steady income but also enhance their skills and contribute to the overall economic development of our communities.
ENHANCING EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME
Attaching tailors and shoe producers to every school for the provision and production of uniforms and shoes can lead to a more personalized and responsive approach. Local producers can ensure better quality control, faster delivery times, and a more tailored fit for our students. This approach would foster a sense of community involvement and pride, as parents and students see firsthand the benefits of supporting local industries.
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Supporting local production is a step towards sustainable development. It reduces the carbon footprint associated with importing goods from overseas and promotes the use of locally sourced materials. This aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and ensures that our state’s policies are both progressive and responsible.
We earnestly call upon you to consider employing local tailors and shoe producers for the production of school uniforms and sandals. This initiative will not only create jobs but also empower our youth and women, thereby reinforcing your administration’s commitment to education and economic development.
We trust in your wisdom and vision for a better Taraba State and believe that this change will bring about significant positive outcomes for our people.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
