The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has intensified its offensive against violent and organized crime, successfully neutralizing nine terrorists and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition in a series of high-impact operations across the country.
In a daring rescue mission on February 14, 2025, police operatives in Kebbi State engaged armed kidnappers in a fierce gun battle at Tundafari Forest, Dakingari. The suspects had earlier stormed Gobiraje Village, Suru LGA, abducting 60-year-old Umaru Bawa. The swift intervention of security forces led to the neutralization of four kidnappers, the arrest of another with fatal injuries, and the recovery of ?3 million already paid as ransom. The hostage was rescued unharmed.
Similarly, in Imo State, security operatives conducted a two-day counter-terrorism raid targeting camps linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its paramilitary wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). On February 8, a strike on an IPOB/ESN stronghold in Ezioha Mbaitolu, Umuele Umuaka Njaba LGA, resulted in the neutralization of two suspected kingpins and the seizure of seven AK-47 rifles, 13 pump-action guns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
A follow-up operation on February 9 at Nkwukwo Forest, Mbaitoli LGA, near the Ubachima Forest in Awomama Oru West LGA, led to another fierce confrontation. Three more terrorist leaders were neutralized, while police recovered two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, four motorcycles, and an assortment of charms believed to be used for criminal activities.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., commended the gallant efforts of the operatives, reaffirming the force’s commitment to eradicating criminal networks across Nigeria. He urged increased intelligence sharing, community participation, and prompt reporting of suspicious activities.
The NPF assured Nigerians that operations against terrorists, kidnappers, and other violent criminals would continue with renewed vigor, emphasizing its dedication to national security and public safety.
