Reps Hail PTAD Reforms, Pledge Stronger Pension Oversight

5.12bn Naira Pension Arrears Paid to 90,689 Retirees — PTAD

By Queen Kunde

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, received the House of Representatives Committee on Pensions on an official oversight visit to its headquarters in Abuja.

Led by the Committee Chairman, Honourable Jallo Hussaini Mohammed, the visit was aimed at reviewing PTAD’s operations and assessing its budget performance for 2024 and the first half of 2025.

In her welcome address, PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Tolulope Odunaiya, expressed appreciation to the lawmakers for their consistent support. She outlined major achievements, including the successful implementation of the 20/28% pension increment effected in September 2024 with arrears fully settled as well as ongoing arrears payments of the N32,000, 10.66% and 12.95% increments from savings made in the pension sub-head.

Odunaiya disclosed that Presidential approval had been secured for the inclusion of critical pension-related items in the 2026 budget proposal. These include full implementation of the N32,000 increment, settlement of unfunded liabilities, the proposed pension harmonization policy, and health insurance coverage for Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) pensioners.

She reaffirmed PTAD’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of DBS pensioners while acknowledging the National Assembly’s vital role in strengthening pension administration. She also highlighted lingering challenges and called for the Committee’s support in resolving them.

Responding, Hon. Jallo Hussaini Mohammed lauded PTAD’s progress in pension management and assured that the Committee would continue to collaborate with the Directorate to ensure that the welfare of retirees remains a national priority.
