SAFE LOVE: NAWOJ FCT CHAIRPERSON WARNS ADOLESCENTS ON VALENTINE’S DAY

By Queen Kunde

As today is Valentine’s Day the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT, under the leadership of Chairperson Bassey Ita Ikpang, has issued a heartfelt caution to adolescents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), particularly young girls, urging them to celebrate responsibly and prioritize their well-being.

In a special Valentine’s message, Mrs. Ikpang emphasized that true love begins with self-care, informed decision-making, and the protection of physical, emotional, and mental health.

She reminded adolescents that while Valentine’s Day is a time for sharing love and friendship, it should not compromise their safety or future.

“Love should uplift and empower you, not put you at risk,” Mrs. Ikpang stated, encouraging young people to avoid risky behaviors and remain in safe environments. She advised them to seek guidance when in doubt and to make choices that align with their long-term well-being.

As a media HIV advocate, Mrs. Ikpang underscored the importance of health consciousness, urging adolescents to be mindful of the reality of HIV/AIDS and other dangers associated with irresponsible behavior.

She reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment to advocating for the rights, health, and future of young people, particularly girls who are often more vulnerable.

Her message was clear and direct:

Mrs. Ikpang’s call to action encourages all adolescents to enjoy the season responsibly, stay informed, and uphold their dignity and self-respect.

NAWOJ remains dedicated to ensuring a safe and healthy future for every young person in the FCT.
