SGF Rolls Out Electric Bikes to Boost FRSC, Road Safety and Security

SGF Rolls Out Electric Bikes to Boost FRSC, Road Safety and Security

By Queen Kunde

In a major boost to road safety and national security, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has commissioned a new fleet of electric motor bikes for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), describing the move as a game-changer for traffic control, intelligence gathering and crime prevention.

The electric bikes were unveiled on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the FRSC Headquarters in Abuja, as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening road safety management and security operations across the country.

Speaking at the event, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, mni, said the intervention was timely and strategic, noting that it reflects the strong and consistent support of President Tinubu for the Corps.

According to him, the electric bikes mark a new phase in the role of the FRSC, expanding its responsibilities beyond traffic management to include intelligence support, emergency response and national security collaboration.

He explained that the bikes would be immediately deployed on critical road corridors nationwide especially in areas where patrol vehicles find it difficult to operate. The bikes, he said, will improve traffic enforcement, special patrols, escort duties and rapid response to road crashes.

“The speed, mobility and visibility of these bikes will help reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and ensure quicker response during emergencies, especially in festive and peak travel periods,” the Corps Marshal said.

Shehu Mohammed also noted that as criminal activities increasingly take place along highways, FRSC personnel have continued to provide early warning intelligence, emergency support and timely information to other security agencies. He added that the electric bikes would further strengthen inter-agency cooperation in protecting lives and property.

He stressed that the initiative aligns with global best practices in modern, technology-driven and environmentally friendly mobility, describing it as a forward-looking step towards smarter and more effective law enforcement.

The commissioning of the electric bikes underscores the federal government’s drive to modernise traffic management while enhancing national security through innovation and collaboration.
