The Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) has urged Nigerian youths to reject violence and political thuggery and take an active part in the 2027 general elections.
ACOE Chairman, Sola Akingboye, made the call on Wednesday in Abuja as the association joined the rest of the world to mark the 2026 International Youth Day.
Akingboye praised Nigerian youths for their energy, creativity and important role in the country’s social, economic and political development. He urged them to remain focused, resilient and committed to building a better Nigeria.
He also called on older Nigerians to create more opportunities for young people to use their talents and contribute meaningfully to national development.
However, Akingboye warned youths against allowing themselves to be used for violence, political thuggery and other acts that could destroy their future.
“Being used for violence or destructive activities can damage their aspirations and deny the country the benefit of their talents,” he said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the ACOE chairman urged young Nigerians to take greater interest in governance and participate fully in the electoral process.
He said massive youth participation in the elections would help ensure that their interests, hopes and concerns are properly represented in national decision-making.
Akingboye also commended the National Youth Council of Nigeria and the Ministry of Youth Development for their efforts to make young Nigerians more productive and resourceful.
He called for continued support for the two institutions and urged youths to use International Youth Day to renew their commitment to peace, responsible citizenship, innovation and national development.
International Youth Day is observed annually to highlight issues affecting young people and celebrate their contributions to society.
