Taraba state Ministry for Women Affairs and Child Development joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 2023 International Women’s Day in Jalingo the Taraba Capital.
In her remarks wife of the Governor of Taraba State, Her Excellency Barrister Anna Darius Ishaku who was represented by Mrs. Suzy Ali Basho, Head of Admin, Hope Afresh Foundation, hailed Taraba women for their numerous strides and achievements in contributing to the societal development, urged them to brace up to the growing trend of innovation and Technological advancement in Today’s world.
The Taraba State First Lady lauded the theme for these year’s celebration which is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” called on all women to take advantage of the new trend of the digital economic policies of the Nigerian Government in order to sustain their business.
Taraba State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Honorable Bridget Twar assured the Women of the Governor Darius Ishaku led administration’s continued support and commitment toward their development. explained that the occasion was put together to also build capacities of Taraba women, especially those in the rural areas to enable them fit into the growing digital economic Space.
“To mark our day today, we have carefully selected experts who will enlighten us on how we can fit into this online banking, online marketing and all the digital innovations that has become our realities today”.
“Most of us women are petty traders, with the new CBN cashless policy and all that came with-it has made it difficult for us to sell our wares, so, today we will learn how we can DigitALL” Hon. Twar added.
In their separate goodwill messages, Representatives of various groups who participated at the event unanimously called for a sustained commitment in supporting the Women especially those at the rural areas in learning how to transact businesses online, which fits into the theme chosen by the United Nations to commemorate the day.
According to the President of the Taraba State National Council for Women Societies, NCWS, Mrs. Punarimam Ezekiel Atenji the world is going digital, we Taraba women will not be left out as you can all see today, we have to buy and sell without cash, but using our credit cards, Women. lets learn how we can do all this even in our villages”.
On her part, Chairperson of Taraba State FIDA, lauded the efforts of the organizers of the event said the theme is apt, as it will help the Nigerian Women grow their businesses by going digital.
Others were the representatives of Nigeria for Women Projects, Oxfam, RISE, Women in Media, WIM, NAWOJ, and others who also emphasized that the Technological advancement in transacting business in Nigeria is the way to go, but in order to “Embrace Equity” knowledge must be stepped down to the people at the rural communities.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of lectures on the digital banking, online marketing and other related issues that will enable Women adopt to the current trends, question and answers sessions as well as other presentations to enhance the quality of lives of the Women.
Some participants who spoke with Ziti News expressed satisfaction with the knowledge they acquired during the lectures at the event said they initially had the mindset that the digital banking and E-Cash policies of government was designed to serve only the elites, assured that they will begin to adopt it drawing from the lessons learned at the event.
