The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State have launched a stronger partnership to crack down on the vandalism of power facilities and the illegal encroachment on electricity transmission corridors.
The renewed collaboration followed a courtesy visit by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Katsina Sub-Region, Engr. Usman S. Idris, to the NSCDC Katsina State Command on July 6.
During the meeting, Engr. Idris praised the NSCDC for its swift response to previous security alerts and raised fresh concerns over recent attacks on critical transmission infrastructure.
He disclosed that two transmission towers—Tower T-219 and Tower T-228—along the Katsina–Daura 132kV transmission line were recently vandalised. The damage was discovered during a routine patrol and has added to growing concerns over repeated attacks on the nation’s power infrastructure.
According to him, vandalism of transmission facilities poses a serious threat to the national grid and could disrupt electricity supply to homes, businesses and industries.
He stressed that stronger cooperation between TCN and security agencies is vital to protect critical national assets and ensure reliable power supply.
Responding, the Katsina State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Dan-Ile Moriki, said investigations into the latest vandalism cases had already begun.
He assured TCN of the Corps’ unwavering support, promising closer collaboration to tackle vandalism and prevent illegal activities along transmission Right-of-Way corridors through proactive security measures.
Both TCN and the NSCDC pledged to deepen information sharing and joint operations to safeguard Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure from further attacks.
