Ajaokuta substation maintenance affects Kogi, Edo communities, industries

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a seven-hour power interruption in parts of Kogi and Edo states today, Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to carry out annual preventive maintenance at its 330/132kV Ajaokuta Transmission Substation.
The exercise is scheduled to run from 9am to 4pm and will involve maintenance work on the substation’s 162MVA, 330/132kV power transformer, associated switchgear and other equipment.
TCN said the maintenance will temporarily affect electricity supply to several communities and industrial customers served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
Under AEDC, affected areas include Ekirin, Omuo, Ibillo, Akoko, Ogala, Ikare, Magongo, Okene Town, Ayere, Kabba and environs.
BEDC customers who will be affected include those in Okpella Town, BUA Cement Company, West African Fertilizer Company, Dibeks Milling Company, Edestein Company, Freedom Group Company, Ososo, Uluoke, Iyora, Apana, Okpekpe, Arigidi, Ikare Town, Lampese, Igara and Oka, among others.
TCN explained that the maintenance is necessary to carry out preventive work on critical equipment and help ensure reliable operation of the transmission facility.
The company said electricity supply would be restored to all affected areas immediately after the maintenance work is completed.
TCN apologised to affected customers for the inconvenience caused by the planned outage and appealed for their understanding and cooperation.
