TINUBU’S ANTI-TERROR WAR NOT FAILING – IMPI

TINUBU’S ANTI-TERROR WAR NOT FAILING – IMPI

By Queen Kunde

Despite recent cases of kidnappings and insecurity across parts of the country, the Independent Media and Policy Initiative (IMPI) has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s war against terrorism is producing results and cannot be described as a failure.
The policy think tank said more than 8,000 terrorists and bandits have been killed by security forces since the Tinubu administration came into office, while over 11,600 criminal suspects have been arrested.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Omoniyi Akinsiju, IMPI said security agencies have recorded major successes through improved military operations, intelligence gathering, and the use of newly acquired military equipment.
According to the group, hundreds of kidnapped victims have also been rescued in different operations across Borno, Kogi, Kwara, Kaduna, Kebbi and Niger states.
IMPI cited the recent rescue of 360 kidnapped victims by troops of Operation Hadin Kai from a terrorist stronghold in the Mandara Mountains of Borno State as one of the administration’s major achievements.
The group said security forces have increasingly adopted aggressive pursuit operations, intelligence-led missions and precision air strikes to weaken terrorist groups and secure the release of captives without paying ransom.
It attributed the successes to the Federal Government’s investment in military hardware, including fighter jets, attack helicopters, surveillance aircraft and specialised training programmes for troops.
The think tank noted that the government has also strengthened international defence partnerships and launched elite special operations forces to tackle terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
While commending the progress made so far, IMPI stressed that more efforts are needed, particularly in the areas of technology, intelligence gathering and addressing socio-economic challenges that fuel insecurity in remote communities.
The group maintained that although security challenges remain, available evidence shows that the Tinubu administration has recorded significant gains in the fight against terrorism and banditry across the country.
