Labour Strike over Minimum Wage

Strike: Labour May Suspend Action Today.

As the ongoing Labor strike over National Minimum Wage  enters its fourth day, there ase indications that Labour may suspend the strike Today asFederal Government considers a return  to  the Negotiation table, with organized Labour unions in Nigeria,

Leaders of the negotiation team of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC), The Trade Union Congress (TUC) are considering the suspension of the industrial action following the plea by the government lead by the Chief of Staff to the President Mr Abba Kyari on Saturday 29th September, 2018.

You would  recalled that Nigeria Labour Congress decided to embark on the strike over the inability of the Federal Government to conclusively discussed and come out with acceptable minimum wage for workers in the country despite the efforts made by  President Muhammadu Buhari to put in place a 30 Man committee headed by Mrs Ama Pepple

Ziti News gathered that the planned suspension of the strike, that has paralyzed some critical sectors of the economy, including the downstream sector of the oil industry, where loading and distribution of petroleum products have been stopped, and maritime services, is a fall out of a meeting between labor leaders and top government officials that lasted several hours on Friday.

According to a source, chief among other reasons for the planned suspension of the strike is the reconvening of the meeting of the Tripartite Committee on the minimum wage.

Labor leaders have been assured that the meeting will not only reconvene, the Federal Government is also expected to present its figure to the meeting.

The refusal of the Federal Government to present its figure to the committee, whereas other social partners had presented theirs, stalled the conclusion of the assignment of the committee hence reasons advanced by workers for the industrial action.

Workers through their leader, Ayuba Waba had accused the Federal Government committee of not showing any sign of seriousness and have taken labor for granted.
